Bo Derek will always be associated with the number ‘10’, but the number ‘15’ belongs to pacing filly Kayla Grace – at least for this week.
The undefeated Kayla Grace, who is named after co-owner Ed Sayfie’s granddaughter, nabbed her 15th lifetime win Friday evening at Hazel Park. She stopped the teletimer in 1:56.1 for driver Brad Kramer and trainer Marie ‘Ginny’ St. Charles.
Kramer hustled the three-year-old daughter of Hes All That-A Maze Of Grace to the lead from Post 7, and she successfully sliced out splits of :28, :58.4 and 1:28.2 before using a :27.4 closing quarter to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Deuces For Charity. Always Sunday was third.
Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, Kayla Grace won for the third time this season following last year’s 12-for-12 campaign. E C S Racing LLC of Rockford and Kevin St. Charles of Whitmore Lake, Michigan own the career winner of $69,227.
