Bolt The Duer Resurfaces

There was a Bolt The Duer sighting Thursday morning at Pocono Downs, and driver Mark MacDonald liked what he saw from the five-year-old son of Ponder.

MacDonald, via his Twitter account, noted Bolt The Duer was “sharp” and “paced home strong” in his first qualifier of the season. He also noted the career winner in excess of $1.7 million will have one more qualifier next week.

The Peter Foley trainee, who last faced the starting gate for purse money in last November’s $512,000 TVG Series final at The Meadowlands, was no closer than fourth for the majority of today’s mile. He was asked to sprint in the lane, however, and his :27.2 closing quarter helped him secure a 1:55.1 victory by a four length margin.

Owned by All Star Racing Inc of Towaco, New Jersey, the two-time KYSS champ has racked up 19 wins from 47 lifetime starts including scores in classics such as the Adios, the Messenger, the Cleveland Classic, the Dan Patch and the Joe Gerrity, Jr. Memorial.
