Sea Laird found his winning touch on Monday evening upon returning to the Preferred ranks at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and that was music to the ears of the favourite players.
Sent off as the 3-5 favourite in the $13,000 Preferred for horse and gelding pacers, Sea Laird powered to the lead from Post 7 for driver Tyler Borth and the pair never looked back.
He hammered out fractions of :27.4, :58 and 1:26.3 before kicking home in :29.3 to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Yacht Seelster in 1:56.1. Taking home third prize in the eight-horse affair was Hollys Treasure.
Terry Gallant trains the seven-year-old son of Custard The Dragon-Devil Likes It Hot for Stacey Smith Robinson of South Mountain, Ont. The gelding racked up his fourth win of the season and the 26th of his career. The $6,500 payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $217,715.
