All eyes were on HP Mama B in Monday’s $32,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and for the longest time it looked like she was going to get there. That is until Patriarch Hanover got airborne and hauled her down in the featured affair.

It was Locatelli who marched to the early lead and had the field chasing him to the quarter pole in :28.2, but race favourite HP Mama B popped out of the pocket and brushed to the top as the group marched into the backstretch.

She went on to lead her five foes through fractions of :56.3 and 1:25.3 before being challenged in deep stretch by the hard-driving Patriarch Hanover and driver Tyler Jones. The Richard Moreau trainee, who sat fourth throughout the mile, uncorked a :27.1 closing panel which was enough to earn him the head decision over HP Mama B in 1:53.4.  Oney Hall rounded out the Trifecta ticket.

Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. owns the six-year-old son of Father Patrick-Personal Style who improved his seasonal record to 3-2-4 from 12 attempts. The 19-time winner pushed his lifetime earnings over $640,000 with the win.

Richard Moreau finished the card with a four-win performance. He also clicked with Bettor Notbitter A (1:53.2), Gigondas (1:54.4) and Skylar (1:55.1).
