Charlottetown Set For 125th Season

The horses are back. Harness racing returns to Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at Charlottetown Saturday with first-race post time set for 6:00 p.m.

All the action will be carried over the legendary Charlottetown Driving Park, which is marking 125 years of racing in 2013, from the world broadcast at www.redshores.ca

Driver Marc Campbell will be special guest in the front lobby of Red Shores at 5 p.m. with a meet and greet, autograph session and cake as the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club celebrates Campbell's O'Brien Award win back in January. Fans can take their camera and get a picture with the hardware. Campbell has a rare light day at the office with only two drives booked on the program. He has 7-2 shot Kaitlyn Rose in race six and Beechwood Tiger in the eighth.

The Saturday card marks the official countdown to the Sobeys Gold Cup & Saucer. The first race on the night is the PEI Poker Challenge Pace with newcomer Wildcats Terror as the favourite. Camcun is 5-2 on the morning line from post four in the evening's top class as the Articulator Pace is the feature event in race nine. Kenny Arsenault will drive the five-year-old, who was impressive in his qualifier charting his back-half in under a minute. Blue Star Outlaw (Jason Hughes) and Artners In Crime (Ron Matheson) are also listed a triactor candidates. Sir Dutch with Bruce McGeen in the bike ships in from Truro while trainer Don Sweet of O'Leary has entered Pembroke Fella.

Customers will be treated to some exciting new promotions in 2013. Wild Horses ticket will return with more plays and jackpots of $125 as Island tracks celebrate the racing milestone. Bettors will also have a chance to receive promotional play vouchers when they place their bets through the on-track tote system.

While on track race programs will increase to $2.50, customers can still download their programs and racing tips for free at www.redshores.ca. The best deal this season is the TrackPack, at $6, which features a race program, wagering voucher, Lotto 649 ticket and 10 per cent discount at food and beverage outlets.
