Trot Insider has learned that trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt will be sidelined for the time being after being injured in Friday night's accident at Fraser Downs.
The Beaumont, Alta. horseman went down in an accident that occurred at the top of the stretch in the final B.C. Bred Stakes on the card.
Hoerdt told Trot Insider on Sunday morning that he is recovering in B.C. after dislocating his right shoulder in the spill. He is scheduled to start physiotherapy next week and is hopeful to be back in the bike within four to six weeks.
Hoerdt also reported that Came A Cavalier, his trainee that he drove in the race, is fine.
The two-time O'Brien Award-winning horseman is one of the leading trainers at Fraser Downs in 2023, currently tied with Jim Marino atop the standings with 36 wins. He ranks second in the driver standings having steered 35 winners in Surrey, B.C. this year.
Hoerdt, who is coming off his third million-dollar season in the sulky, has driven 2,817 winners lifetime.
