Windsong Filou Gets Up In Mares Open

Locked in the pocket at the head of the lane, Mark MacDonald managed to squeeze Windsong Filou up the rail for a 14-1 upset in the $38,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace Friday night at Woodbine Racetrack

MacDonald sent Windsong Filou to the lead from Post 5 but would settle for a pocket ride as a parked out Four Starzz Meliss (Jason Brewer) reached up for the lead before the :27.2 first quarter. She took the field to the half in :56 and three-quarters in 1:24.2 as the 4-5 favourite, A Ps Money Maker (Rick Zeron), advanced first over. A Ps Money Maker gained the upper hand in the stretch but Windsong Filou was able to shoot up the rail to score in 1:53.2 by 1-1/4 length.

Allamerican Swift (Sylvain Filion) rallied off second over cover to finish second ahead A Ps Money Maker.

Winsong Filou returned $31.40 to win as the fifth choice in the field of six. The four-year-old daughter of Astreos-Jasper Avenue picked up her third win in 12 tries this season and pushed her earnings to $71,700 for trainer Shawn Robinson and Ontario owners Bill, Frank and Harry Loyens and Vito Frijia. The eight-time career winner now sports a bankroll totaling $324,597.
