Jerseylicious and Trace Tetrick found the winner’s circle for the second consecutive week in the $21,000 Fillies and Mares Invitational Pace at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, April 15.
Racing from off the pace this week, the seven-year-old mare used the long Hoosier Park stretch to her advantage to stop the timer in 1:50.3 and just missed her lifetime mark by a two-fifths of a second.
Jerseylicious was unhurried from the gate and settled along the rail in sixth while Shady Caroline and John DeLong came away firing. Shady Caroline reached the front at the first quarter in a snappy :26 while Mischief Maker N and Todd Warren benefitted from a pocket seat. Wild Wanda and Ricky Macomber Jr. were next in line third as Shady Caroline continued to dictate fast fractions of :54.1 and 1:22.2.
As the field rounded the final turn, Wild Wanda began the first-over attack and Tetrick quickly grabbed the cover with Jerseylicious. Shady Caroline appeared to be up to the task, but Jerseylicious wasn’t finished. Using a :27.2 final quarter, Jerseylicious powered past her rivals to get the win by a length and a half. Wild Wanda rallied for second-place honours while Shady Caroline held on gamely to round out the trifecta.
As the heavy betting favourite, Jerseylicious returned $3.80 to her backers at the betting windows.
Trained by Timothy Lane, the daughter of Western Ideal-Jet Lag N recorded her sixth win of the season from 11 starts. Jerseylicious has now won 24 of 87 lifetime starts while increasing her lifetime bankroll to $733,870 for her connections at Emerald Highlands Farm.
The Tetrick, Emerald Highlands Farm combination had another winner on the program as Tetrick guided Blazin Britches home a winner in the very next race to record her second consecutive Hoosier Park win in a new lifetime-best of 1:52.
Live racing will resume at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Tuesday, April 18 with a 13-race card.
