Windshear pulled off an 18-1 upset after sweeping three-wide down the backstretch and to take over command in the $13,000 Preferred Trot on Friday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway

Driven by trainer and co-owner Robbie Robinson, Windshear settled into fifth position from Post 7 while Hesgotlegs (Gary McDonald) took command and carved out early fractions of :28.1 and :58. As the field rolled past the half-mile mark, Robinson set Windshear into motion and swooped wide around the parked out Paddington (Stephane Pouliot). He reached the front by the 1:27.3 third quarter and opened up multiple lengths on the field before stopping the clock in 1:58. Summerhill Charles (Stephen Gendron) and Lemon Candy (Daniel Delude) closed from the backfield to finish second and third.

Windshear paid $38.20 for the upset. The five-year-old son of Windsongs Legacy-Odds On Tammy notched his second win in seven seasonal starts for Robinson and co-owner Jacqueline Dinelle. The gelding's sixth career win pushed his bankroll to $83,919.
