The five-year-old JK Royal Flush mare Century Mach circled to the lead and held her ground to take the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Thursday night (April 13) at Fraser Downs.
A three-wide battle around the first turn clicked a :26.3 first quarter with In High Cotton clearing command. Once the early battle settled, trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt then hustled Century Mach out of third and swooped to the lead after a :55.2 half, leaving Stash The Cookies uncovered on the rim. Stash The Cookies pressed Century Mach to three-quarters in 1:23.3 and stalled around the final turn, forcing Moosette wide for the drive. Moosette made gains, but Century Mach kept three-quarter lengths in front at the end of a 1:53 mile. In High Cotton held third and Stash The Cookies finished fourth.
Kelly Hoerdt also owns Century Mach, a 22-time winner from 66 starts and an earner of $129,553. She paid $4.50 to win.
