The public's choice, Retros Mystery, crossed to control early and went on to wire his competition to capture the $8,100 featured pace at Century Downs on Sunday, April 14, which was his fifth win in a row.
Leading to a :27.1 opening quarter, Retros Mystery faced little pressure on the point as Southwind Jaden pulled off the rail to advance uncovered into a :57 half. The five-year-old Mystery Chase gelding opened his lead in the backstretch, allowing Southwind Jaden to tuck into the pocket while he sped to three-quarters in 1:25.2. He turned into the stretch two lengths better than Southwind Jaden and cruised to a length-and-a-quarter victory in 1:54. Phanatical Maniac, three lengths back, took third.
Owned and trained by Stewart Waterman, Retros Mystery won his fifth race from six starts this season and his 11th from 70 overall, earning $99,883. Phil Giesbrecht drove the $4.50 winner.
