The Raceway at Western Fair District hosted a set of $7,500 Preferred 3 events for horses and geldings Tuesday evening, and Victor Puddy and Alfie Carroll joined forces to capture both of them.

The dynamic duo got things rolling with Twin B Wrangler, who was a front-stepping winner in his assignment in a time of 1:55.1. The gelding parked past the quarter in :27.1 before touching down on the lead and serving up middle fractions of :57.2 and 1:25.3. His :29.3 closing panel earned him the win by two lengths over Button Up, with race favourite Kendal Gustav taking home the show dough.

Sent off as the second choice in the wagering, Twin B Wrangler returned $5.70 for the win. The six-year-old son of Mach Three-Stryper, who is owned by Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ontario, won for the first time this season and for the 12th time in his career. The lion’s share of the purse bumped his overall bankroll to $129,540.

Canadian Edition survived a first-over trip en route to winning his tilt in 1:55. The gelding watched Stoney Durkin supply splits of :28, :58.1 and 1:25.3 before wrestling away the lead from that foe in the lane. A :29.1 closing quarter propelled Canadian Edition to the length decision over Guiness Seelster, while Stoney Durkin faded to finish third.

Keith Cassell also holds the papers on the four-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-A Fiesty Affair, who now boasts a 4-2-1 record from 10 trips to the track this season. The eight-time winner has potted close to $70,000 in his career.
