As West Meadows Raceway continues to meet with members of the Saskatchewan government in an effort to gain Home Market Area status in Regina and continue live harness racing, the track is asking supporters to reach out to Members of the Legislative Assembly.
"We still do not have a Home Market Area or transitional funding," West Meadows' Jane Grainger told Trot Insider. "Our shareholders are interested in securing the long term future of harness racing in Regina and are wanting to invest in a Simulcast facility, but we still need to secure additional funding for our 10 live race days in 2013."
West Meadows Raceway is encouraging those who support a Home Market Area for the Regina track to write letters or email their MLAs in advance of further government meetings scheduled for this week. Supporters are asked to request that the government provide the same tools to West Meadows as those given to the other tracks in the province so live harness racing can continue in Regina.
"Because we were notified only in late February, this has made it difficult for us to do, which is why we have asked for transitional funding for the 2013 race meet," continued Grainger. "West Meadows sponsors have committed support for the 2013 live meet but those sponsors alone are just not enough and the transitional funding would provide us the time needed to set up and generate revenues to put toward future live race programs."
