Fans of harness racing have witnessed the excitement of racing from the perspective of a helmet- or sulky-mounted camera with the GoPro. The next generation of action cameras puts the fan in control of the viewfinder.
Last Friday, the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association hooked up driver Mike Wilder with a camera made by 360fly. This camera provides a 360-degree perspective through a smartphone app connected via wifi or bluetooth, and allows the user to control what they look at in real time.
Slightly smaller than a baseball and weighing just 4.2 ounces, 360Fly was introduced at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show. The 360Fly sensor is 12.4MP using a custom glass lens with a field of view (FoV) of 360º horizontally x 240º vertically.
