Driver Austin Sorrie sent Beachin Lindy to the centre of the course heading to the final turn and then spurted clear of his competition to take the $13,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday (April 12).
Leaving from the pylon post, Beachin Lindy settled to race last of the sextet while Big Bang Boom barreled to the lead before a :26.3 first quarter. Grabbing a breather to a :56.2 half, Big Bang Boom soon faced first-over pressure into the backstretch from Pembrook Legacy N while Sorrie readied the seven-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding for a blitz to three-quarters in 1:25.2. Beachin Lindy lunged for the lead off the final turn and drew clear of Pembrook Legacy N to the line to post a 3-1/2-length victory in 1:55 as the 6-5 favourite. Outlawgrabbingears rallied for third and Clever Character faltered off a pocket trip for fourth.
Owned and trained by Stephen Charlton, Beachin Lindy won his third race from 12 starts this season and his 22nd from 132 overall, now with earnings of $233,081 lifetime. He paid $4.20 to win.
