Veteran trotter San Pail was a qualifying winner for the second week-in-a-row at Woodbine Racetrack, and the old boy showed he has still has plenty of punch in his boxing gloves.

The three-time Maple Leaf Trot champ stepped to a 1:58.3 score in last week’s first qualifier of the season, and Friday afternoon he turned in a 1:55.1 victory for driver Randy Waples.

San Pail carved out panels of :28, :57.4 and 1:27.3 before using a :27.3 kicker to fend off a late-surging Charmed Life and Thankyoukessel. San Pail halted the teletimer in 1:55.1.

Hughes Stable Inc. of Dunsford and Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry, Ontario own the triple millionaire, who is a 52-time winner to date.

Wheeling N Dealin, who had an undefeated rookie campaign and won an O’Brien Award as that year’s Two-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year, also turned in a winning qualifying effort during the Friday afternoon session. Now racing for trainer Luc Blais, the four-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Quick Credit sliced out splits of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:28 for driver Sylvain Filion before using a :28.2 closing panel to win by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:56.2.

The nine-time winner, who is owned by Determination of Westmount, Quebec, has banked more than $800,000 to date.

Other qualifying winners on Friday were SAS Warkentin (1:59.2), White Becomes Her (2:01.2) and Windsun Revenge (1:59.4).
