Sugars Pride ($9.20), a five-year-old gelding by Allamerican Ingot won the $18,000 Open Handicap Pace at the Isle Pompano Park Saturday night

Driver Kevin Wallis rushed Sugars Pride from Post 5 but had to settle for the two spot when Bruce Ranger and I Can Only Imagine toke over the lead just before the quarter in :27. I Can Only Imagine took the field of six past the half in :56.3 and to the three-quarters in 1:23.4. Getting the pocket trip, Wallis pulled Sugars Pride down the stretch to out pace I Can Only Imagine to win in 1:51.4 by a half-length. Cape Karuna (Anthony Napolitano) finished third.
Sugars Pride is trained by Gerald Greer and owned by the Pilgrim Stable of Florida.
Wallis also won with the four-year-old gelding Blazing Tower, who is trained by his wife Linda and owned by Exit 67 Racing LLC of Florida and Estellante, a six-year-old Intrepid Seelster gelding trained by Peggy Faurot and owned by Clay Faurot, Sr.
Driver Jamie Marra, 42, who is the Vice President of the Florida Amateur Driving Club, not only got his first pari-mutuel win but also a new lifetime mark (1:59.3) with the nine-year-old Promising Catch gelding trotter, Neuf Angus. It was the first win of the season in seven starts.
How did Marra feel about his first win, “I’m taking the family to Disneyworld,” he said.
