State Treasurer Goes Serious Mile

One of last year’s toughest campaigners in the older pacing horse division put on quite a show during Friday morning qualifiers at the Southern Oaks Training Center in Florida.

In rein to trainer/driver Dr. Ian Moore, State Treasurer turned on the jets and turned in a dazzling mile of 1:51 in his first charted line of the season. The six-year-old son of Real Desire-Ideal Treasure sped through panels of :27, :55 and 1:24 before unleashing a :27-second final quarter en route to the 11-length tally.

Sally MacDonald of Souris, PEI and Paul MacDonald of Toronto, Ontario own the 21-time winner who went 8-for-23 last season. He stashed away more than $480,000 last year, and that’s put him in serious contention to join the million-dollar club. The classy campaigner, who was an O’Brien Award finalist in 2014, will start the year with earnings totalling $961,340.

How about the other Canadian horses making themselves noticed during these qualifiers? James Dean pupils went 4 for 4, including OSS Superfinal runner up Platoon Seelster trotting home in 27 for a 2:01 score in reign to Ryan Holliday!!

Great to see
