MacDonald Nabs First Driving Win

Brett MacDonald might have to consider making ‘13’ his lucky number considering he notched his first-ever driving victory in his 13th lifetime start.

MacDonald celebrated his maiden-breaking score during Thursday evening’s card of racing at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and the horse that got him to the promised land was What A Rush – a fitting handle considering the circumstances.

MacDonald worked out a second-over trip for the four-year-old son of Federal Flex, and when he called on the gelding in the lane he complied in the form of a :29.2 closing quarter. It was good enough to propel What A Rush to the win by 1-1/4 lengths, and it was good enough to crack the goose egg that had been residing in MacDonald’s win column.
