Dr. Clarke Humbled By Hall Induction

"It is a significant honour and I'm still having trouble deciding whether or not I might be worthy of it."

Those are the words of Dr. Ted Clarke, Grand River Raceway’s humble general manger, who found out this week that he will be inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. The Hall announced its 2014 inductees on Tuesday. The Induction Ceremony will be hosted at the Mississauga Convention Centre on Wednesday, August 6.

Dr. Clarke’s comments have come via Dave Briggs’ column in the Guelph Mercury. Briggs explains that when Dr. Clarke received the call he said it "was one of those genuine moments,” adding that the GM’s response was: "'Oh my goodness. This is really happening.'”

It was also announced that the great pacing mare Dreamfair Eternal, a daughter of Camluck, will be enshrined into the Hall in the female horse category. Her breeder and owner, John Lamers, praised his iron-tough mare during an interview with the Ingersoll Times.

“[Dreamfair Eternal] is everything a horse owner and breeder wants in a lifetime,” Lamers was quoted as saying. “One of the ones that gives you 100 per cent almost all the time.”
