With the 2024 harness racing season underway and hitting the quarter mark, Trot Insider has provided an update on the drivers and trainers leading the way.
James MacDonald, Canada's three-time reigning Driver of the Year, leads all drivers in the nation for wins (98) and earnings ($1,310,347) as of press time. His win margin is slim with Tyler Borth (91) trailing by seven and Travis Cullen (88) just 10 away. Just shy of the 100-win mark, MacDonald ranks 10th in all of North America.
Doug McNair recently joined MacDonald in passing the million-dollar mark for earnings in 2024. He's driven horses to $1,005,070 so far this year, with Borth ($961,299) also on the verge of that seven-figure mark.
Kelly Hoerdt's impressive .400 UDRS is tops in all of Canada with Scott Knight's .388 second-best and Mike Hennessy rounding out the top three at .383.
Perennial leading trainer Richard Moreau has sent out 84 winners with his stable being the only one in Canada to top the million-dollar mark through the first three months of the year as his starters earned $1,059,440. Moreau's win count ties for second in all of North America.
Jodie Cullen ranks second in both categories with 60 wins and $644,455 in purse earnings on Canadian soil while Gerard Demers' 47 wins is third-best and Carmen Auciello holds the show spot for earnings with his stable accumulating $600,580 in purses to date.
Isaax Waxman boasts a UTRS of .428 to lead all trainers in Canada this year. Hoerdt sports a .420 UTRS in second-place and Jim Marino ranks third at .393.
