Inside Express quarter-poled to the top and rolled to a convincing victory in Thursday’s (March 9) $11,000 opening leg of the Mary Wohlmuth Memorial at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. The series for three- and four-year-old trotting fillies and maress honours the memory of the late Mary Wohlmuth, longtime manager and hostess of the 2:00 Club at The Meadows.
Once Brady Brown moved Inside Express to the front, the three-year-old daughter of Trixton-Jessies Song turned back the first-over challenge of Allforsouthwind and drew away late, defeating that rival by three lengths in a career-best 1:58.1. Bee Jammin finished third.
Rick Beinhauer trains Inside Express, a filly he owns and bred along with Regina Beinhauer.
Thursday’s card also featured a pair of $11,000 opening-leg divisions of the Dale McConnell Memorial, a series for three- and four-year-old colt, horse and gelding trotters named for the late Dale McConnell, a distinguished handler of trotters who trained such top performers as Photo Maker. The splits went to Curadh and Heist.
Dave Palone piloted four winners and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. drove three to victory lane on the 13-race card.
Live harness racing at The Meadows continues Friday (March 10) when the program features the opening leg of the Wilbur Zendt Memorial for three- and four-year-old pacing colts, horses and geldings. First post is 12:45 p.m.
