According to a report, a bill has been introduced which aims to see slot funding used to bolster purses redirected to the education system

.

An article on delmarvanow.com explains that Luiz Simmons, a Democrat in the state of Maryland, has introduced legislation in the form House Bill 885 which would see the seven per cent of slots revenues that would go to purses redirected to a school construction fund.

"I don't have any ill will toward horse racing, but I don't feel that we should be giving a handout to the horses when most other groups are scouring in the weeds for pennies," Simmons was quoted as saying.

According to the report, Simmons calling the purse dedication account, which fund horse racing purses, as "a public subsidy of a moribund business."

Horse racing must be re-engineered such that pari-mutuel wagering becomes, again, financially viable and self-sustaining. "Bailouts", whatever the form, are unlikely to continue whenever politicians' careers depend on financing programs that are perceived as affecting the most voters.

Someone better straighten this guy out and quick!!
If this ever becomes a trend we are all in serious
trouble!!!

Myself among others predicted 5 years ago that the "politicos" would try to redirect gambling revenues from Horse Racing to "more socially acceptable" projects like Schools and Hospitals. This is just the beginning of a snowballing avalanche which the public will gladly support!
