The Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario judges declared the seventh race on Friday, March 7 at The Raceway at Western Fair District a 'No Contest' after an incident occurred in the second turn.

As the strung-out field of claiming filly and mare pacers approached the three-eighths mark, the Darryl Laver-trained sophomore Mcmuffin broke stride while racing in fifth place, stumbled and fell, unseating her driver, Garrett Rooney. No other participants were involved and the race was called off after the incident occurred.

Track officials told Trot Insider that both horse and driver were able to leave the track under their own power after being tended to on track. Mcmuffin sustained some scrapes but appeared to be okay. Rooney underwent evaluation by the track's EMS personnel and booked off his remaining two drives on the 10-race card as a precaution.

A winner of more than 1,800 races, Rooney is coming off a career year in 2024 when he earned his first driving title at The Raceway.

With the seventh race declared a 'No Contest' by the AGCO judges, $21,863 in wagers were refunded.
