Fresh off the claim, Start Livin wore down Windsor Raceway's reigning Open Trot champion Winzel for a 15-1 upset in this week's $13,000 handicapped edition
Wednesday night.
Winzel (Donald Rankin Jr.), winner of the last two Opens at Windsor, established the lead from Post 4 and carved out fractions of :28, :58.1, and 1:26.2. Meanwhile, Start Livin and trainer-driver Wayne MacLean settled into third early on and moved out and around the stalled first over attacker, Whitesand Diablo (Trace Tetrick), down the backstretch. Pouring on the pressure, Start Livin eventually swept by the leader in the stretch to win by nearly three lengths in 1:56.2, just one-fifth of a second off his lifetime mark. Winzel stayed for second and Ill Tell You What (Brad Kramer) came on for third.
The winner paid $33.30 as the second longest shot on the board.
Start Livin was claimed for $10,000 after winning last Wednesday at Western Fair Raceway by MacLean. The seven-year-old Striking Sahbra-Merry Legs Hanover gelding, now two-for-two on the year, has won 15 times over the course of his career while earning $222,838.
