Trainer Tony O’Sullivan has had Major Stone firing on all cylinders in recent weeks, and it was more of the same for the six-year-old in his Monday assignment
at Western Fair Raceway.
Sent off at odds of 3-1 in the $14,800 Preferred, the son of Art Major-Jennas Stone was treated to a pocket trip and he knew exactly what to do with it for driver Doug McNair.
Having finished no worse than second in each of his last three assignments, Major Stone slipped right into the two-hole behind Ricks Sign. That front-stepping foe, who was sent off as the 7-5 favourite, chopped out panels of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:29.1 before being confronted by Major Stone. A :29.2 final quarter was good enough for Major Stone to prevail by a neck over Ricks Sign in 1:58.4. Shadywood Baron rallied late to grab the show dough.
Joe Martinelli of Staten Island, NY owns the 14-time winner, who improved his 2011 record to 3-2-0 in seven tries with the win. He has banked in excess of $28,000 this season and more than $243,000 to date.
