Goldstar Badlands broke out of a mini slump Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District thanks to a decisive score in the $11,000 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers.
Goldstar Badlands was parked past the quarter pole in :28.4 before muscling his way to the top for driver Scott Young. He then sliced out splits of :59.1 and 1:27.4 before using a :29-second closing quarter to win by 5-3/4 lengths over Good Friday Three in 1:56.4. Third prize went to Bali.
Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Goldstar Badlands is now a four-time winner from just eight trips to the track this season for trainer Heather Toll and owner Morley Bradshaw of Wilsonville, Ont. The seven-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Rockin Lady has banked more than $176,000 to date.
