Rev Me Up, the pride and joy of the Kathy Millman Stable, captured the $16,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Miami Valley Raceway on Friday, returning $19.60 to her mutuel backers.
Despite being the richest mare in the full field with over a half million dollars in career earnings, the eight-year-old was dispatched at 8-1 odds in search of her 37th lifetime win.
Driver Randy Tharps abandoned his seat third along the pylons just past the :27 first quarter and raced side-by-side with pacesetting Shine N Shimmer (Chris Page) the rest of the way. Following a pedestrian middle half where the teletimers were tripped in :57 and 1:26, the pace quickened the final panel with Rev Me Up gaining a slight advantage in the final strides. Shine N Shimmer held on for second with Multiple Sources (Greg Grismore) storming in the stretch to complete the trifecta.
Rev Me Up joined Shine N Shimmer and Igotafeelinfran as the only two-time distaff Open winners during the first 10 weeks of Miami Valley’s second season. Buckeye Thea, Stucklikeglue, Beat The Beat and All Terror have also garnered top honours in the weekly female feature in 2015.
Racing resumes Saturday night (March 7) at Miami Valley when the track will be the feature attraction in the series of free satellite tournaments to win seats in the World Harness Handicapping Contest at The Meadowlands later this year. To enter handicappers can visit HorseTourneys.com for rules and details. A total of $120,000 in purses will be up for grabs over the course of the strong 13-race program.
