Millar Farms announced today that Little Black Book p.1:54h ($288,457), the farm's foundation broodmare
, has been humanely euthanized.
For many years, Little Black Book was the fastest mare on a half mile track in Canada, though her biggest highlight was winning over the hearts of Eastern Canadian fans when she beat boys in stake record time in the 1993 Gold Cup and Saucer in 1:54.1.
The mare's success followed her into the broodmare shed as she produced such champions as her first foal Sioux Dawn p.3 1:50.2s ($348,926), who set a new track record at Woodbine Racetrack at three and Catch a Wish p152.2s ($260,829).
Overall, her eight foals of racing age have earned over $1.07 million. The farm is currently training down a two year old Western Hanover out of LBB, Chocolate Truffle. She was put to rest at the farm.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Little Black Book.
