Tactical speed is one of First Rate Shark’s greatest assets, and driver David Dowling took full advantage of that weapon en route to scoring with the pacer in Monday’s $12,000 Preferred-2 Pace

at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

Starting from the pole position, First Rate Shark powered to the top and successfully chopped out panels of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:28.3 before using a :29-second final frame to seal the deal by three-quarters of a length over Willies Place in a time of 1:57.3. Third prize in the eight-horse tilt went to Acceptable Risk.

Trainer David O’Brien of Dorchester, ON shares ownership on the seven-year-old ridgling with Anne O’Keefe of Ferryland, NL. The victory was the second of the season for the 14-time winner who upped his lifetime earnings to $234,643.
