Traffic troubles for even-money favourite Boomboom Ballykeel in Monday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District left the door wide-open for an upsetter, and Colorado Buck happened to be that horse.

In rein to Marc St. Louis, Colorado Buck made a bold move late in the mile and fended off late pressure to post the mild upset at odds of 4-1.

Lincolnjames flew from Post 7 and rolled the field through fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:26.4. Colorado Buck, who got away sixth, was still sixth and parked past the half before making a three-wide move going to the three-quarter pole. He kicked home in :29.3 to win by a half-length margin over Artistic Pick in 1:56.4. Shifty Norm tagged along to finish third.

The eight-year-old son of Rambaran-Glenmount Allison is owned and trained by Douglas Schweitzer of West Lorne, Ont. It was the second win of the year for the homebred who is now a 19-time winner to date. The win pushed his lifetime earnings over $110,000.
