Trot Insider has learned that well-known Preferred trotter Runway (5,1:56.3h -- $275,951) had to be
euthanized Tuesday, March 3 due a serious stifle injury.
The horse's connections told Trot Insider today that veterinarians had looked at a couple of options to make the seven-year-old K M Lazer horse field-sound, but that at the end of the day optimal results were not attained. The connections said that the bay could not get around that well and was in pain.
Purchased at the Canadian Classic Sale in 2003 for $12,000, the hard-knocking Runway made 105 career starts and finished his racing career in 2008 with 18 wins to his credit, 18 runner-up finishes and 15 thirds. He lowered his mark to 1:56.3 over Flamboro Downs at five and banked $275,951 overall.
The classy trotter was trained exclusively by John Muir, who also steered the bay in a large majority of his starts.
The connections of the horse have indicated that the rambunctious trotter will be sadly missed.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Runway.
