There were no chasers up to the task of getting to Shoot The Whiskey as she and driver Travis Cullen led every step of the way in the $12,000 Filly and Mare Preferred on Tuesday (March 31) at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Scratched down to a quartet, Shoot The Whiskey left from the outside post as the 1-5 favourite. Crossing over quickly to the cones, Shoot The Whiskey asserted herself on the engine, taking the field to the quarter in :29 in front of the pocket-sitting Delta Sunrise (David Kelly). The bettors' choice went unchallenged in the middle half, leading to the halfway point in :58.4 before throttling up to three-quarters in 1:27.2.
Splashing around the final turn and turning for home, Shoot The Whiskey kept her foot on the accelerator with a :27.4 final fraction in the slop, crossing the wire 2-1/2 lengths clear and stopping the clock in 1:55.1. Delta Sunrise held for second, with Ladyterra (Garrett Rooney) hitting the wire in third.
Jodie Cullen trains Shoot The Whiskey who has won back-to-back and five of 13 in 2026. The seven-year-old daughter of Shadow Play-Arm In Arm sports a career bankroll of $464,867 for owners Paul Sanders of Surrey, B.C., J J J Stables of North Vancouver, B.C., and Travis Cullen of Dundas, Ont.
