Returning from a brief layoff, Jans Rich Girl kicked off the Friday night card at Fraser Downs with a 10-1 upset in the $12,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace

.

Trained and driven by Scott Knight, Jans Rich Girl sat mid-pack in the five-horse field before zipping up the passing lane to win by nearly two lengths in 1:54.1 over a sloppy track. Rossridge Fortune (Justin Currie), the longest shot on the board at 12-1, rallied from the trailing position to place while favourite Village Janus (Serge Masse) finished third. Legal Suspensory (David Hudon), was on top through fractions of :28 and :57 before being confronted by the pocket-sitting Jennas Pass (Keith Clark) en route to the 1:24.4 third quarter mark, but both mares were out-sprinted in the stretch.

Jans Rich Girl paid $22.80 to win for the second time in six 2012 starts. The seven-year-old Camluck-Rich Jan mare, who won her last start on February 10, is owned and bred by the Sunbury Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. She now boasts 27 wins on her lifetime record and $219,982 in purse earnings.
