A quartet of $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) divisions for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings were contested on Monday at Dover Downs
, and it was crunch time for many of the pacers who were looking to punch a ticket to next week’s $100,000 final.
It was a round trip to the winner’s circle for Three Ten, who followed up last week’s 1:55.4 score with a 1:54.4 victory in Monday’s opening division. Ron Pierce mapped out the winning trip for the Clifton Green trainee, who defeated Bad Blood George and Power N Glory.
The son of Three Olives has put together a 3-2-2 record in 10 starts this season for owner Joseph Eisenhower, Jr. of Bellmawr, NJ.
The second split went to Get Jazzed, who delivered on an odds-on promise for trainer/driver Jeff Fout in a time of 1:56.3. The son of Three Wizzards easily defeated Brite Toy and Travel Watch in the six-horse affair.
It was the first win of the season for the Winbak Farm homebred, who bumped his lifetime earnings to $109,485 in the process.
Rays Big Bubba is still perfect in 2009 thanks to his 1:53.4 triumph in Monday’s third DSBF division. Ross Wolfenden, who guided the Scott Gregoire trainee to a 1:52.2 victory in last week’s opening leg assignment, stopped the clock in 1:53.4 with in today’s tilt with the son of Badlands Hanover. Everlasting Pride was second best and third prize went to Zee Barber.
Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Rays Big Bubba won for the eighth time in his career for the partnership of Richards Stable Inc., Donna Sullivan and Judith Leonard.
Corey Callahan guided the George Teague, Jr.-trained Mr Wiggles to a 1:54.4 victory in the final division. The son of Badlands Hanover, who was sent off as the 1-2 choice, knocked off Al Ibad Spider and Badlands Pete.
Elmer Fannin and George Teague Jr. Inc. split the bills on the colt, who got into the win column for the first time this season after winning five of eight last year.
The $100,000 final of the DSBF for the three-year-old pacing colts and geldings goes next Monday at Dover Downs.
