Fruit Snacker scored his third straight victory in the $27,397 Winners Over Select Handicap Trot over a sloppy surface at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday, Mar. 3.
Deadline Hall (Trae Porter) was the quickest off the wings, but Fruit Snacker, the 3-2 favourite, floated away from post six and rushed to the top at the quarter in :27.2. Tony Morgan rated him to the half in :56.2, and the gelding raced comfortably on the lead up the backstretch. Last Glow (Jack Parker Jr.) braved the first-over trip, followed by Victor Laszlo (Eric Davis), who trotted second-over, while Indy Be Quick (Russell Foster) sat the pocket.
Fruit Snacker led to three-quarters in 1:24.4 and put away Last Glow at the top of the stretch, and Victor Laszlo and Benjamin Hanover (Tim Tetrick) angled wide at the top of the lane. Neither of them could threaten the leader, though, and it was Indy Be Quick who started to gather momentum and close in deep-stretch, but Fruit Snacker held on by a head for the score in 1:53.3. Benjamin Hanover was third.
Fruit Snacker is now four-for-six on the season for trainer Will Reynolds and owner Mark Howard of Federalsburg, Md. The four-year-old Dover Dan-First Avenue gelding is now 16-for-34 lifetime. He returned $5 to win.
Tim Tetrick recorded four driving wins on the 12-race card.
There is a Pick 5 carryover worth $1,801 and a Pentafecta carryover of $1,524 to Wednesday’s card at Dover. The feature on that program is the 9th-race $21,000 USD Fillies and Mares Winners Over Select Handicap Pace. Jett Propelled seeks a third straight victory in the event.
