Driver Mike Wilder and trainer Spencer Kahrig took time out of their hectic schedules Thursday morning, volunteering their time to read to a classroom of kids at Trinity North elementary school in Washington, Pennsylvania.
Wilder and Kahrig shared duties reading Stable Girl, a kid’s book written by Patricia Harrison Easton that features a day in the life of a young girl at the Snyder Stable at The Meadows.
"It couldn't have gone better," said Wilder. "I was really impressed with the kids and the questions they asked. It was a group of fourth and fifth graders and they had done their homework before our visit. They asked a lot of excellent questions about harness racing to both of us."
The children were given goodie bags courtesy of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association, including T-shirts, hats and schedules for the 2016 racing season at The Meadows.
