Oaklea Wyatt was treated to a second-over journey in Thursday’s $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, and he didn’t let it go to waste.
The five-year-old son of Amigo Hall-Oaklea Lark got away fifth before tracking the cover of Lets Leavem in the middle stages of the mile. Meadowview Vicky shot to the top and supplied the field with fractions of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:28.3, but she couldn’t go the distance. Oaklea Wyatt swung off cover on the way to the three-quarter pole and then used a :29.1 closing kick to win by three-quarters of a length over race favourite Meadowview Vicky in 1:58. Taking home third prize was Cal Chips Brother.
Owned, trained and driven by Daniel Potvin of Rockwood, Ont., Oaklea Wyatt won for the second time this season and for the 12th time in his career. The lion’s share of Thursday’s loot lifted the gelding’s cash stash to $65,044.
