It isn't a rarity to go to the track and hear someone sing the National Anthem before the action gets underway. Although, it has to be a rarity when it is one of the track's sous chefs which is performing the honours

Opening day has arrived at Hoosier Park, and to help kick off the 18th standardbred racing season, one of Hoosier Park’s employees, Terrance Hazard, will perform his rendition of the National Anthem on Thursday, March 31.
Hazard currently holds the position of executive steward & sous chef at Hoosier Park. He came to the company approximately three years ago when he was contacted by executive chef Coley Miller and was asked to leave his home in Louisville, Kentucky to assist with the grand opening of the casino at Hoosier Park. In no time at all, Hazard realized he truly enjoyed being part of Hoosier Park’s team and was soon offered his current position.
Hazard has made some real improvements in the food and beverage department over the past three years. As a result, Hazard was recently given the Safety Award by Hoosier Park to celebrate and congratulate his outstanding achievement in both physical and food safety. He has focused on training the kitchen team members about the importance of proper food handling techniques, correct temperatures for storage and service as well as other safety procedures. Hazard then began continuous training with other food and beverage outlets at the facility and now serves as the internal safety inspector.
Hazard’s efforts in the food and beverage department are only some of his many talents. He makes time to personally lend his voice to individuals with special occasions and birthdays within the Homestretch Steakhouse.
Hazard first began singing in his hometown church, Bether Baptist Church. He later joined the choir when he was only eight years old, and has been singing ever since.
“I’m just doing my part to make others happy,” said Hazard. “Everyone likes a song. Music uplifts and encourages you.”
Hazard admits he occasionally enjoys doing karaoke and his favourite song to sing is 'I Believe I Can Fly' by R. Kelly. All of his inspiration for singing and in life comes from his faith. His faith is a huge part of his everyday activities.
When asked what he enjoys most about working for Hoosier Park, Hazard continued to say he is truly inspired by how connected the company is with the community. Hoosier Park’s active roll in volunteering their time and money through the United Way makes his employment here even more meaningful. He also loves the small town feel of Anderson and the closeness of knowing several of the members of the community.
Hoosier Park is truly lucky to have hardworking compassionate employees such as Terrance Hazard. That’s just one more reason to be excited and proud to have him represent the facility with his talent for the National Anthem.
Hoosier Park will host an 80-day standardbred race meet offering live racing Tuesday through Saturday. First post time is 5:30 p.m. (EST) each evening except for Saturday when racing begins at 4:30 p.m. (EST).
