The status of harness driver Jon Roberts is currently unknown. The pilot was transported to local hospital last night from Dover Downs
.
According to a report by the Dover Downs publicity department, Roberts, 29, was steering Theredandpanlines in Dover's 10th race, the $32,500 Delaware Special Handicap, when an accident occurred.
The report states that during the dash, Nova Artist (driven by Allan Davis), bore out and interfered with Funny Deacon (Corey Callahan). In turn, Funny Deacon tossed Callahan out of the racebike. He landed on his horse before hitting the track.
Theredandpanlines was racing behind Funny Deacon at the time, and ended up tossing Roberts quite a distance in the air before the driver landed on his tailbone.
Callahan was alright after the accident, and went on to record a total of six wins on the program. Roberts was transported to Kent General Hospital, and there has yet to be any word on his condition.
