For the second consecutive week the $35,000 Open Pace at Dover Downs went to Wambam Sam, who needed every inch of the racetrack to repeat in the weekly feature

.

Trainer/driver Daryl Bier got away sixth with the five-year-old son of Real Artist-Roses For Sammie while Everlasting Pride and race favourite Summer Camp battled to the quarter pole in :27.2. Summer Camp muscled to the top and led the field past the mid-way point in :55.1 before coming under heavy pressure to the three-quarter pole by Everlasting Pride. They zipped by that marker in 1:22.2, with Wambam Sam stalking them from second over.

Everlasting Pride put away Summer Camp, but he couldn’t fend off Wambam Sam who got up in the final strides to win in 1:50.1. Everlasting Pride was a solid runner-up, while Summer Camp was forced to settle for the show dough.

Bier shares ownership on the gelding with Glenn Del Russo of Wall, NJ and Charles Dombeck of Davie, FL. The win was the seventh of the season in 12 starts for Wambam Sam, who is now a 19-time winner in his career. He has banked in excess of $297,000.
