Lexis D J was the star of Saturday night's Preferred 3 Trot at Flamboro Downs, scoring a front-stepping victory in the $7,500 dash with driver Bob McClure in the sulky.

Inside starter Lexis D J was out-sprinted off the gate, but quickly moved around early leaver Coco Bino during the :28.4 opening quarter. The gelded son of Amigo Hall continued to lead the field of nine through a half in :59.3 with Torches Angel advancing on the outside and 4-5 favourite Kennel Buddy gapping his cover. The pressure was mounting as he passed three-quarters in 1:28.2, but Lexis D J kept the first over pursuer at bay around the final turn and drew clear down the stretch for the 1:58.1 triumph. Coco Bino edged out Torches Angel for second-place one length behind the winner.

Lexis D J was sent postward as the 7-2 third choice and returned $8.90 to his $2 backers.

Shane Arsenault owns and trains the eight-year-old trotter, who has earned two (consecutive) wins in seven seasonal starts. Lifetime, Lexis D J has won 33 races and $388,942 in purse money.
