Young Memorial To Dancers Luckyseven

Three-year-old pacing filly Dancers Luckyseven and driver Brandon Campbell rallied through the passing lane to capture the $35,000 Marian Young Memorial Pace on Friday night at Fraser Downs.

The stakes event was for three-year-old fillies that are B.C. sired or bred and non-winners of $20,000 lifetime as of Feb. 1, 2015.

Campbell and Sandra Roberts's homebred filly left from post two with favourite Fast Lane Elektra (John Chappell) firing to their outside from post five and clearing just past the :27.2 quarter mark. Dancers Luckyseven followed in the pocket through middle splits of :58 and 1:28 as Millbanks Writer (Serge Masse) advanced on the outside blocking her in. But when the fillies turned for home, Campbell showed Dancers Luckyseven the clear path along the pylons and she drew off to win by two and three-quarter lengths in 1:59.1 over the track that was downgraded to sloppy during the card due to the rain.

Fresh off a maiden-breaking victory last week in her sophomore debut, the daughter of Vine Street paid $10.10 to win as the 4-1 third choice in the eight-horse field.

Coming Soon (Bill Davis) closed off cover to cross the wire in second-place, but she was off-stride and caused a judges' inquiry. That filly was subsequently set back to fifth for being lapped on by Darren Lupul stablemates Fast Lane Elektra and Fast Lane Firebolt (Clint Warrington Jr.) while on the break at the finish and causing interference to Millbanks Writer (Serge Masse).

After the race, Bill Young, husband of the late Marian Young, joined the connections of Dancers Luckyseven for the winner's circle presentation.

The victory in the Young Memorial was one of four on the Friday night card for Campbell.

Earlier on the card, Rummys Command won the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace in a career-best 1:53.1 by three and three-quarter lengths over late-closer Just One More (Campbell) and favourite Prairie Illusion (Masse). The four-year-old daughter of Cams Card Shark paid $30.70 for the upset victory and kicked off a driving and training triple for Keith Clark. The 2014 Northlands Filly Pace champion, owned by Clark and Robert Jones, now has back-to-back wins from 12 starts this year.
