Ram motored to the front early and registered a comfortable victory in the $9,500 conditioned feature trot over a good surface at a rain-soaked Flamboro Downs on Thursday, March 26.
Ram hustled out of post three but went wide into the first turn while pursuing inside starter Charmbo Chip (Scott Coulter), whom he rolled past as the field straightened into the breeze on the backstretch. The leader reached the quarter in :29.1 with a 2-1/4-length lead, and he maintained a gap on the rest as Damian MacLellan rated him to fractions of :59.3 and 1:29.2. MacLellan gave the stallion a single reminder coming off the final turn, and that was enough for Ram to draw away to a 3-1/4-length victory in 2:00. Charmbo Chip finished second, followed by Ramiro (Austin Sorrie).
The Cory Fuller-trained Ram has won this class twice in his last three starts, breaking stride in last week’s appearance after a narrow win two back. The win was his fifth in 10 seasonal starts. James Wilson of Melancthon, Ont. owns the son of Royalty For Life-Monarch Butterfly, who is now six-for-24 lifetime with $35,052 in bankroll. The win price was $3.60.
