Truro Raceway officially began a period of transition last month when it made moves to separate its operations from those of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission (NSPE). On Monday (March 26), raceway officials commented on the progress that has been made, including the introduction of a board of directors.

In an announcement which has appeared on social media, Truro Raceway officials stated that they would like to thank the community, horsepeople and friends for the outpouring of support they have received while they have been working to establish Truro Raceway as its own business, moving forward (For some background on the situation, click here, here and here).

The release also states that, “To that end, a board of directors has been formed and has taken steps to create business plans, negotiate contracts, and maintain access for customers.”

The board will consist of four directors, a president, and a secretary-treasurer. One of the four directors will always be the sitting THHOA president, as elected by its membership.

The current board of directors appears below.

Director – Anthony Stymest
Director – Arnold Hagen
Director – Jeff Skinner
THHOA Director – Steve Morton
President – Kelly MacEachen
Secretary-Treasurer – Darlene Cail

In addition to the board news, the Truro officials also addressed some of the other issues that have been at the forefront since the changes were announced.

“Truro Raceway is working with the Nova Scotia Farm Loan Board towards a quick resolution in negotiating the use of the CA Douglas Grandstand,” the release stated. “A lease has already been signed with regards to the track, infield, barnyard, and associated parking areas.”

The Truro officials also stated that a new website (truroraceway.ca) has been launched which will continue to have information added. It was also stated that fans will notice a return to Truro Raceway’s social media presence.

The anticipated start to Truro’s season of live racing is April 27, pending the availability of racehorses.
