After upsetting in last week’s $15,000 Preferred Pace at Kawartha Downs, Lyons Johnny got much more respect from the betting public in Monday’s main event and the Bruce Goit trainee had little problem making a round trip to the winner’s circle

In rein to Jonathan Drury, Lyons Johnny got away last in the seven-horse affair while Part Shark led the field through first-half fractions of :27.3 and :57.2. He came under pressure from Power Off in the third quarter, and not much separated those two at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.1. Lyons Johnny, who was stalking cover from second over, sprung into action in the lane and used a :28.4 closing panel to seal the deal by a length over Mach It Paid in 1:55.1. Daddy Warbucks finished third.
Geoffrey Lyons Mound of Burford, Ont., who owns the four-year-old son of Mach Three-Renees Queen, watched the gelding improved his 2012 record to 2-1-0 in six tries while pushing his lifetime earnings over $100,000.
