G G Delight and Thebestofmagic put forth a pair of winning efforts in their $5,500 Mid-Winter Series eliminations for $8,500 filly and mare claiming pacers at Kawartha Downs on Saturday night

In the first elimination, G G Delight (Reginald Gassien) out-sprinted Debster (Jason Gilchrist) as both mares closed from the backfield. The five-year-old D M Dilinger mare scored by a nose in 2:00.4. Pacesetter Moody River (Brad Rae) finished one length behind in third.
G G Delight paid $20.80 for the upset. The win was her first in five starts this year for trainer and owner Stephen Gassien of Peterborough, Ont.
Thebestofmagic and driver John Thompson won the second elimination, leading every step of the way to score in 1:59.1. Pocket-sitter No Teasing Me (Gord Brown) followed for second, finishing one and a quarter length behind, while Sweet N Fruity (James MacDonald) came on for third.
Thebestofmagic paid $8.60 to win as the bettor’s choice. The five-year-old daughter of Cammibest was making her first seasonal start for trainer Jason Woodward and owners and breeders Ross and Judy Brown of Newtonville, Ont.
