Four Leaf Clover runner-up Art Professor unleashed a ferocious late kick to take down millionaire Hypnotic Blue Chip in Saturday night’s $27,500 Preferred Pace for four and five-year-olds at the Meadowlands
Racetrack.
Europan Union (Andy Miller) fired off the gate and posted a :27.4 opening quarter before Hypnotic Blue Chip (Brian Sears) rolled up from fourth and poked a nose in front at that half in :54. The 1-2 favourite, who will head to Woodbine Racetrack for the $100,000 Spring Pacing Championship next weekend, moved out in front and reached the third quarter mark in 1:24.3 while Ron Pierce sent Art Professor first over from third. The four-year-old son of Art Major-Allamerican Toffee unleashed a :26.3 final quarter to overtake Hypnotic Blue Chip in the stretch and prevail in 1:51.3 by over a length. Whiskey Pete (Pat Berry) rallied off cover and edged out Europan Union for third.
Art Professor paid $10.80 to win as the 4-1 third choice. The Larry Remmen trainee, who has won four of his 11 starts this season, raised his bankroll to $98,600 for 2011 and $275,657 lifetime for owners Bradley Grant of Milton and the Holland Racing Stable Inc. of Aurora, Ont.
