For the second straight week at The Raceway at Western Fair District fans watched Brocks Fortune turn a pocket trip into a triumph against Preferred foes.
Last week he prevailed in the $8,500 Preferred 3, and Monday night’s score was celebrated in the $11,500 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers.
Austin Sorrie worked out this week’s sweet trip with Brocks Fortune, who watched Tomitta Bayama carve out panels of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:26.1. Brocks Fortune found clearance in the lane and used a :30-second closing quarter to win by 2-3/4 lengths over Tomitta Bayama in 1:56.2. Artistic Pick rounded out the Trifecta ticket in the six-horse affair.
Sent off at odds of 10-1, the nine-year-old son of Stonebridge Regal-Fannies Fortune posted the victory for owner/trainer Taylor Fritz of Guelph, Ont. The veteran, who is now 3-for-6 this season, is a 28-time winner with more than $380,000 in career earnings.
Backyard Swagger went down the road to capture the $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers.
Scott Coulter cruised through panels of :29.1, :59.2 and 1:27.2 with the gelding who then used a :30.2 closing quarter to win by a neck over Adore Him in 1:57.4. Littlebitaswagger rounded out the top three finishers in the six-horse tilt.
Dean Nixon trains the four-year-old son of Real Desire-Dayzee Dukes for Lexington Harness Group LLC and Matthew White. The win improved this year’s record to 3-3-2 from 10 trips to the track and the lion’s share of the loot bumped his career earnings to $47,289.
