A natural Grand Slam plus an earlier victory on Thursday’s 12-race program at Western Fair Raceway gave Doug McNair five reasons to smile in what can only be
described as a pretty good day at the office.
McNair, who currently sits second among all drivers in London’s standings, got the ball rolling with a gate-to-wire score in Race 2 behind Baskin Babe (2:00.1). But his magical run commenced in Race 5.
He took that dash in coast-to-coast fashion with Secret Meeting (2:02.1), and he wound up winning the next three races, as well. Laura Mae (1:58.3) won narrowly in Race 6, Lucrative Lady (2:03.4) romped in Race 7 and Best Around (1:58.1) was two lengths the best in Race 8. All in all, it was a solid five-win performance for McNair.
With those wins under his belt, the St. Thomas, Ontario horseman has now reined home 82 winners this season and 576 to date. The 2009 campaign was a career-year for McNair, who had 384 wins and banked more than $3.1 million in earnings.
